    Summer calls for Salsa de Chamoy sauce. Chamoy is a fruity bittersweet flavored salsa that is very popular in Mexico. Chamoy is eaten on top of fruit, veggies, or used to make tasty sweet and bitter paletas heladas, mangonadas, and even Micheladas! You know we Mexicans need that bitter spicy taste all over! This homemade chamoy salsa recipe is really easy to make and can be a great success to use to dip those slices of pineapple, jicama, or mango! The ultimate and Authentic chamoy sauce recipe is here!

    WHAT IS CHAMOY SAUCE?

    Chamoy sauce is a very popular fruity bittersweet flavored sauce that is very popular in Mexico. Chamoy sauce is made of dehydrated fruits and hibiscus flowers in a combination of chili powder. Salsa de Chamoy might have some variants. Sometimes people like to add tamarind, mango, or make it more bitter or spicy by adding extra chili powder and lime.

    INGREDIENTS

    • 1 cup of prunes
    • 1 cup of dehidrated apricot
    • 1 cup of hibiscus flowers
    • 2 lemons
    • 1/4 cup of stevia
    • 7 cups of water
    • 1 orange
    • 1/2 cup of powder chili or tajin
    • 1/4 teaspoon of salt

    HOW TO MAKE MEXICAN CHAMOY SAUCE

    Making Salsa de Chamoy from scratch is very easy and is actually very nutritive and full of fiber!

    • Put 8 cups of water to boil. Turn off the heat and place the prunes, apricots, and hibiscus flowers.
    • Make sure all the ingredients are covered in the water.
    • Let the fruit hydrate overnight. If you need it right away let the ingredients boil in the water for about 15 minutes and let it cold down a bit.
    • In the blender place 2 cups of the water where the fruits got hydrated along with fruits and hibiscus
    • Add the juice of 2 lemons, the juice of 1 orange, 1/4 cup of tajin, and 1/2 a cup of stevia
    • Blend all together until pulverized.
    • taste and go by 7 senses! want it spicier? add more chilly powder, bitter? more lime
    • The chamoy salsa is ready! it need to be refigerated and will last about 2 weeks.

    Chamoy sauce tastes like a bitter, salty, spicy fruity sauce. It is delicious to eat on top of fruits.

    No, Tajin is a variety of chili and there is a very popular chili powder brand named Tajin.
