    DAY OF DEAD PIZZA

    This Day of the Dead Pizzas are brought to you in partnership with El Mexicano Brand®.

    What better way to celebrate our Mexican traditions ?? than by preparing these delicious pizzas in the form of a Catrina ? for the Day of the Dead celebration. Topping them off with delicious cheese, and other toppings from El Mexicano® brand products, I’ll teach you how to prepare scrumptious pizza dough that is perfect for preparing on your stovetop without having to use an oven. ?

    Preparing healthy foods depends not only on omitting the use of additional fat, but also watching portion sizes and using quality products. For this recipe, we are using El Mexicano® Brand products to obtain a nutritious and delicious pizza which includes a little added spice with the use of Nacho Sliced Jalapeños El Mexicano® . This guarantees you will not miss the flavors of Mexico!

    The first thing you should know is that this is a creative recipe which means you can add your own personal touch and create your own variations. You can also invite your children to help decorate! The inclusion of family in the preparation of some meals will encourage them to eat. Remember that it’s important to instill in your children, especially when they’re small, the taste for healthy cooking and healthy habits. For example, Jorgito, my 2-year-old boy, loves to eat Queso Oaxaca El Mexicano®.

    As a note, when you are preparing the dough it is important that it keeps a perfect consistency. You’ll know this when it can be handled and does not stick to your hands. If after kneading it is still sticking to your hands just add a little flour.

    As I mentioned, this recipe can be used to create very original pizzas which are perfect for meetings, Halloween parties or Day of the Dead. They’re also perfect as a snack and as a quick low-calorie food.

    The colored peppers are perfect to add color and a variety of shapes for the Catrina (calavera). I made the figurines with cookie molds and used other elements that I had at home such as Jalapeño slices and Queso Oaxaca for the savory pizza.

    For the sweet version, the Pizza Dulce, I used Requesón El Mexicano® and I am fascinated by this cheese for its versatility. I usually prepare the sweet pizza with this cottage cheese style which makes them much healthier than using regular cream cheese. I also took advantage of El Mexicano® Natural Honey to sweeten the Natural Yogurt for a healthier version. It’s also great as a rich source of calcium and of course decorating with fruit is just an added bonus.

    The El Mexicano® Brand cheeses are ideal for this recipe. They melt perfectly and are… 

    ?Low in carbohydrates

    ?Made with Grade A milk

    ?Gluten Free

    ?Made with sea salt

    And you can find them in assorted trays, readily available in Hispanic supermarkets across the United States.
