How to make gravy from scratch for oven-baked turkey or mashed potatoes. This recipe is very easy and it is delicious. Looking for a non-packet turkey gravy? There is nothing like the natural flavor of a gravy made from scratch. I like to use the broth that the turkey releases during cooking, but if you don’t have it, you can use turkey, chicken, or beef broth following this same recipe.

How to make Gravy for Baked Turkey step by step

    • Place 4 tablespoons of butter in the skillet and let it melt over low heat.
    • Add the two tablespoons of wheat flour and stir quickly so that it integrates with the butter. You will begin to see bubbles, that is normal, what we want is that the flour is integrated with the butter and there are no lumps. If you have lumps, you can break them up by stiring the mixture.
    • Once the butter is integrated with the flour add 1 cup of broth. And mix,
    • Add 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 3 cloves and boil for about 4 minutes.
    • Remember that as the gravy cools, it becomes thicker.

How to thicken the Gravy for Oven Baked Turkey or Mashed Potatoes

If you want your gravy to be thicker you need to add more flour. Don’t put the flour directly into the hot mixture or it will clump and spoil it. You can dilute the flour in a little water at a time until there are no lumps and then add to the rest of the gravy and mix quickly.

With only 4 ingredients create the easiest, fastest, and most delicious GRAVY for this Christmas or Thanksgiving. If you don’t have the turkey broth, don’t worry, you can use chicken or beef broth.
