Salmon is definitely my favorite fish. Salmon recipes are usually easy and fast to make as Salmon cooks very fast. This Mexican garlic serrano salmon steak recipe gives some extra flavor without being too invasive, it can also be done with a salmon fillet. Salmon for me is a kind of the top grilling steak! to an expensive steak you don’t want to mess up the flavor you just want to add some flavor accent and that is what this salmon recipe will give you. A very special spicy not hot perfect condiment for your salmon.

WHAT IS THE BEST METHOD TO COOK SALMON

You can achieve different tastes and textures depending on the method you are using to cook salmon. I traveled to Alaska for a Food Bloggers conference and we had the most amazing grilled salmon you can even imagine. You out of the sea, salt on it, and straight to the grill. It was tender, moist, smoked flavored by the charcoal. It was just delicious. I give you some tips so you can choose the best method to cook Salmon.

GRILLED SALMON

Grilled Salmon just becomes a delight. I prefer it coming from mesquite charcoal or briquets as it adds some smoked flavor to the salmon. The most important for grilled salmon is to have a griller basket. Fish meat can come apart very easily. The grilling basket is going to help you keep salmon on the grill and not on the bricks. I will recommend use a little olive oil all around the salmon and add pepper and salt to taste. Or you can use my garlic serrano salmon Mexican recipe.

BAKED SALMON

I like to keep the salmon covered in foil if I am baking it. Baked salmon is usually very juice if you don’t cook it over time. It will need some extra flavor that you can give it by adding spices such as fresh rosemary, salt, and pepper. The foil is going to help you to keep the salmon moisture.

FRY SALMON

The easiest way to cook salmon is just placing it on top of the pan once is very well seasoned. I usually cook with little oil but with salmon, I will definitely have some olive oil on the pan and let it fry a little. If you do not want to use too much fat, just season well, and cover the salmon. Let the salmon cook at medium heat so it can cook it the same moisture that comes out of it.

I prepare salmon at least once per week at home. I usually make my rosemary Mexican cream recipe for salmon, but this time I wanted to try something different. Not long ago I made some fish fillets in a Poblano sauce and they turned out delicious so I wanted to experiment with Salmon. Serrano pepper is usually for brave people. Serrano is spicier than jalapeno, it has a different taste that I just love. A secret to prevent serrano and poblano from been to spicy is to get rid of the seeds. The rash between the chili meat and the seed can make it very hot. We Mexicans have something call Chiles Toreados where we do kind of press the chiles so they can have that rash and make them ultra spicy.

MEXICAN SALMON MARINADE RECIPE

This Mexican recipe for Salmon steak or fillets is very easy and fast to make. You will need the following Ingredients:

  • 1 Lemon
  • 1 serrano pepper
  • 1/4 cup of olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 4 Salmon Fillets.

HOW TO MAKE GARLI SERRANO SALMON RECIPE

  1. In your blender add 1/4 cup of olive oil
  2. Add to the blender 1 serrano without seeds, 2 garlic cloves, and about 1/4 of a teaspoon of salt.
  3. Blen all toghetr until you get a kind of green loose paste.
  4. Cover the salmon steaks with the serrano mixture and if you have time let it marinade for one hour. I did not have time to marinade and still came out delicious. Make sure to keep it in the fridge if you marinade it.
  5. In a pan add about one spoon of olive oil and let it warm up.
  6. Add the salmon to the skillet and let it cook fro about two minutes. Flip the samon over and now let it cook on over the skin for another two minutes.
  7. Half cover with the pan top leaving some space for a little steam to come out and let it cook for another 4 minutes or until achieving the term you like.

EXTRA ADVICE FOR THE PERFECT SALMON RECIPE

  • Make sure to be in top of it! Salmon can cook pretty fast and if it over cook it comes out. a little dry. I love tender moisture salmon so make sure do not over cook.
  • Respect the salmon flavor. Salmon is special for it own flavor so do not put to much spices or sauces on it. Just accent the salmon flavor with garlic, olive or and 1 or 2 spices.
