This the very Easy Nopales Salad- so light, healthy, economic (very cheap ingredients) and versatile because it could be served as a salad at lunch or dinner, or to accompany a nice chop, a piece of turkey or grilled chicken. The extra value: nopales have lots of fiber, vitamins, and minerals that help to get a balanced diet – quite recommended to people with diabetes, cholesterol and hypertension.
Easy Nopales Salad, So Light & Nutritious
Portions: 6
Preparation time:30 minutes
Firstly, the Easy Nopales Salad is quite recommended to people with constipation problems or high levels of sugar in the blood, because of its fiber and nutrients. This simple fruit (yep, this is a Mexican cactus fruit) provides with Vitamin A, B, and C, sodium, potassium, among others. Its amino acids contribute to reducing toxins in our body. I’d say it has a “cleaning” effect. In addition, the nopal helps to regulate metabolism, balance digestion processing and prevent heart diseases.
For those who are looking for options to lose weight, this fruit is simply marvelous and easy to prepare at home to fix different recipes. My advise is to include it in your dinner or lunch as a salad, or a garnish to accompany a nice steak, fish or grilled chicken. Its versatility enables many combinations with other vegetables, so you could include the needed nutrients in your diet, with a filling sensation.
What I do is to fix a lot of nopales and keep them in the refrigerator, so that during the week I serve a portion during lunch or dinners.
By the way, here’s one tip for you: nopales are usually juicy (with a mucilaginous liquid). If you want to get rid of its juices, try to freeze or pass through a strainer and rinse with very cold water. Another tip is to cook them with baking soda, a tomato skin, or lemon juice.
Cultural note: the nopal juice, a mucilaginous liquid, used to be applied as a remedy to skin rashes. Believe me, it is magic!
